You’ve finally decided to invest in yourself and have booked your massage, body polish or another treatment session. If this is your first visit or it’s been awhile, you might have questions about what to expect. Before we relax your body, let’s put your mind at ease by answering the most common questions we get.

Do I have to get completely undressed for my massage?

This is completely up to you. Many clients are comfortable undressing completely because your most private areas are always draped and covered. I only expose the part of the body I’m currently working on. If you feel more comfortable leaving your underwear on, that’s fine too and won’t hinder your massage experience.

Do we talk during our session?

Again, this is at your discretion. I’ll follow your lead. Most clients prefer to get lost in the relaxation by closing their eyes and maintaining a quiet atmosphere. Others like to have a soft conversation the entire time. You can let me know upfront which you prefer or just settle in. I may ask you how the pressure is, but if you want quiet, you’ll get it.

Please do speak up in certain situations so you can get the most out of your experience. Always feel free to mention if you:

  • Are too hot or cold
  • Are feeling pain
  • Forgot to mention an important health issue
  • Would like a firmer or lighter pressure
  • Have any questions during your session

What if I don’t like parts of my body?

The massage experience is a no-judgment zone. I am a professional massage therapist and want only to focus on your muscles and soft tissue to provide a relaxing and therapeutic experience. That said, I don’t want you to have any anxiety during your session.

If you have areas of your body you’d like me to avoid, just mention it in the beginning. The same is true of very ticklish areas; let me know and I’ll work around those spots.

How do I know which massage technique is right for me?

We’ll work through this together. It’s my job to understand how each modality of massage can help you achieve the results you’re looking for. When we meet, we’ll go over any areas that are giving you trouble or are sore, how you want to feel during and after your massage, and the kind of pressure you enjoy.

I am trained in various techniques so I can tailor each experience to be exactly what you need. My areas of expertise are:

  • Neuromuscular
  • Reflexology
  • Swedish
  • Lomi Lomi
  • Deep Tissue
  • Pranic Healing
  • Seated or chair

What if I fall asleep?

This is more common than you might think. On the whole, our society is severely sleep-deprived, so when you let your entire being relax, it can be normal to fall asleep. Your massage will continue, and if it’s time for you to change position or the massage has ended, I will very gently let you know. I never want you to rush out of the massage room, so take your time, stretch, and get dressed at your leisure.

Should I tip?

Tipping is completely at your discretion. If you are pleased with the service I’ve provided and feel you’ve achieved your relaxation and body work results, a 20 percent tip is customary but never necessary.
